Metal Addiction ! What the f**k!?

Hi everyone
This blog was created to fullfil my need to share my passion with this extreme form of musical expression that is METAL, in evey form and shape.

This passion of mine, that today really is an addiction and something that i cannot live without, started somewhere in 1987 (so i was 12) when a friend of mine (still up to these days and casual fan) that was living in France, came to homeland for the summer vacation , bringing with him the vynil of Maiden´s "Somewhere in time".
At that time i remember liking Scorpions's "still loving you" , Whitesnake 's "here i go again" , one Billy Idol tune , Jackson's "smooth criminal" and Europe's "the final cowntdown" (I did think Tempest was a chick!!!). And that was all the "Metal" that my short existence had tasted so far. In fact the word "Metal" didn´t even existed till that summer night when listening to that Maiden vynil.

I got hooked by the sound, the cover and that feel of being diferent, outcasted and considered "evil"and bad (to your health?)?!?
Just like any other kid starting his teenager years , everything was new and exciting but this really got my eye.

Later i remember hooking up with an uncle only a few years older (6,7 i think) that listed to an Hardrock/AOR show on the radio everyday.
And that was called Rock´em Stock (i'm not sure if its correct...). This guy was not into any kind of particular music , just told me to try this show at fridays , that´s when they played the top of most wanted tunes.

And so i did. Started listening to it on all fridays and then everyday of the week, 4PM to 6 PM.Glam Metal, Hard Rock, AOR was the prime thing, i remenber getting into Poison, Cinderella, Junkyard, Axxis, etc, etc.
But sometimes They played AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth , Iron Maiden and some others. That was where the thrill was...
So i came back from school more or less at 2PM, had lunch and tried to study listening to this radio show.

I remember thinking to myself "geee, i'm actually liking this thing... what will other people say...?"
Got my first musical love with Metallica. The track "one" was playing often and was the nº 1 on that show's top 20.
I remember writing a letter to the show asking for Megadeth's "In my darkest our" , which they played, another of my faves...
That Radiostation (Comercial.FM) had another show, this time once a week on saturdays also from 4PM to 6PM.But a more undergroundand extreme show.I remember disliking the first times i've listened to it. They played everything, from the more "mainstreem" (Iron Maiden, Judas Priet, Motorhead) to the big thrill (Thrash Metal was still skyhigh) and the underground tape trading movement (Death,Black, Doomdeath).

This is where my life definitly changed . "Lanca-Chamas" was the name of the show, had Van Halen's "eruption" as the opener and the 2 hours of ecstasy...
I even quit playing football with my friends (another thing i love doing up till today) just to stick my ears to that small radio my father had. This was 1988.

Then , at my 7th year of school i met a person that f**ked up the remaining sense and definition of "normal" in my head. I met Carlos Cariano, the guy behind MALEVOLENCE (Prt). With him got to know all about the startig Death Metal movement . I started going to the few Metal/punk gigs around my town, got to read fanzines, attended band reharsals (VOMITORY was the 1st, later i even became roady for EXOMORTIS) and got into the real underground.

Then on , its history, by the end of 1988, beguining of 1989 i was hooked. Nothing to do, i just let myself go and discover a new age. Thrash Metal was my first passion , but Death Metal took me to levels of musical pleasure way high.
I was there when "Leprosy", "Altars of Madness", "Symphonie of sickness" , "F.E.T.O.", "Left Hand Path", "Blood fire and Death", "Slowly we rot" came out, and f**k, those were the days, what a thrill , what a rush, pure adrenalina rushing through my veins

Even form a band (around 96), a few gigs played, nothing much really. Tried for 2 more times but didn´t go anywhere.I guess i was meant to be just a fan. Still got my gear though.

Back to this blog.
I will dissect my Metal collection here. Give my opinions on the items i have, add rare fotos, old magazine reviews, etc.
In conclusion i'll speak about the most passionate form of music there is. Like it or not this will be my point of view on the many several bands i have on my collection.

Cheers
M
